about

Patrick recorded this in the spring/early summer of 1995, around the same time he played his first show (solo) at an open mic at the Unitarian church in Brewster, MA. I think he started selling it in late July or early August of that year (I definitely had it by the time I went off to college in September). This tape rarely left my player that summer or autumn unless it was to listen to Cheesewheel (who also were at that open mic, and of which every member would end up playing in at least one full-band incarnation of The Fleece later on). These tapes were dubbed onto regular retail TDK SA90 cassettes from the store and the liner notes and cover art were lovingly taped to the TDK card.

This one is a little more refined than Chinese Red Sunsets, and in fact several of the songs are re-recordings of songs from that tape. I believe when this was finished Patrick took back any copies of Chinese Red Sunsets that were still at Instant Karma in favor of this. My understanding is that Patrick considers this to be his first actual release and that Chinese Red Sunsets is basically just a demo.

I am uploading this on December 20, 2022. I will leave payments open for a week and any money from that will be donated to Patrick's family for funeral expenses. If you wish to donate directly, this is the link: www.gofundme.com/f/patrick-tottenham
